Fans have been longing for the solid return of Bongo Maffin made up of Speedy, JahSeed, Stoan Seate and Thandiswa Mazwai. The group has been on and off the scene with everyone pursuing their solo careers. This year, Dru Hill hosted Bongo Maffin as one of their opening acts at the All White party, however, the group performed without lead singer Thandiswa, who was in the US on tour when the announcement was made. Poet, DJ and rapper Stoan has since connected some dots about why the group has been "on and off.'
SOLO CAREERS
He explained that the group had not broken up or separated. He said that Bongo Maffin still exists with all its members despite them pursuing solo careers. "We have all been doing our own thing, apart from the group. I am running my businesses, DJing and focused on music and everyone else is doing their own thing,' he said. However, he explained that because he and Thandiswa have a child together, tensions sometimes come into play and the band takes a break and re-groups later.
TENSION
Stoan said sometimes personal issues get in the way of the group but they're always able to resolve it by keeping a safe distance. ]
"Our interpersonal relationships struggles because of having a child together,' he said, explaining her departure and why she was the first to pursue a solo career. "There was silence between 2000 and 2001 and Mafikizolo emerged during that break.' They released 14 years later in 2019.
