The past two years have been bittersweet for singer and songwriter Puleng Rebecca Phoofolo. Two years ago, she lost her mom, who died after battling diabetes and cardiac-related issues. This year, she was involved in a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of her friends Lizwi, Da Moss, and Malome Vector in July. But Puleng (28) is staying positive and released a new song to help heal her grief, titled Mama.

GRIEF

The song, Mama is dedicated to her late mom, Nthabiseng Monica Phoofolo, who passed away two years ago in her bedroom one morning. "She was diabetic and on chronic cardiac medication. It's been two years since my mom passed away. It has been tough," Puleng said. "The past two years have just been filled with grief and death,' Puleng told ZiMoja. "While I was working on recovering and healing from grief, I then got into a horrific accident that took my friends. It has been tough,' she added. "So, this song is my way of trying to heal,' she added.

LOVE AND RESPECT

Through her song Mama, she wants to encourage others who have gone through grief to never give up. "I wanted to show appreciation to my late mom and the love and support she gave me through the years. It is also a song about grief in general and losing loved ones,' she said. "We sometimes don't appreciate the people in our lives while they are alive and this song is motivation to love and respect our parents.'
