The matter against five accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has once again taken a long adjournment. It was postponed to May 2023 after accused number 1 and 2 sought the services of a new defence lawyer. Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli are standing trial for the murder of the Bafana Bafana and Pirates goalie in Vosloorus on October 2014.
NEW WITNESS WAS MEANT TO TAKE THE STAND
Meyiwa was shot and killed during an alleged robbery at his baby mama's home Kelly Khumalo. Today, the court was expecting a new witness to take the stand after Tumelo Madlala completed his testimony last Friday. Sibiya and Ntanzi are no longer represented by Advocate TT Thobane who was representing four of the five accused. Advocate Sipho Ramosepele confirmed his appearance on behalf of the two. Ramosepele told the court that he received instructions from accused number 1's father on Thursday whilst busy with another matter. "The instruction I got first was from Mr Sibiya, the father of accused 1, and his instruction was that they want me to inherit the matter with respect to accused 1 and 2 from Thobane," said Ramosepele.
BEYOND HIS CONTROL
Ramosepele explained that Sibiya's father told him that Ntanzi and his son grew up together. The state's Advocate George Baloyi said he was only informed about these changes on Monday morning. He said it was beyond his control because Ramosepele needs time to familiarise himself with the case. "Ramosepele needs time to acquaint himself with the matter, as well as the contents of this case, and Thobane has indicated that he needs time to communicate this development with his clients. The state does not object to a postponement ,' said Baloyi.
