MK Party blames ANC corruption for VAT increase

MKP says they are not in support of the budget

MK Party Member of the KwaZulu Natal Legislature Ishana Barciela has blamed what she labelled the ANC's mismanagement, corruption and neoliberal economic policies for the VAT increase.

REJECTING BUDGET

Barciela, joining other opposition parties, emphasised that the MK Party will not support the VAT hike. "The MK Party vehemently rejects the proposed VAT increase," she said. She added, "This is a direct assault on the people, forcing them deeper into poverty while the political elite and their capitalist backers continue to feast." She argued that the VAT hike will add price increases for essentials like food and other necessities.

COLLAPSE IN CRITICAL SERVICES

Barciela warned that failure to pass the budget could lead to dire economic implications. "If this budget isn't voted in, we could witness a collapse of critical services that millions depend on. The government must understand that their choices have real consequences for the lives of ordinary South Africans," she added. "I'm concerned that there might be electoral manipulation going forward hence the government's push for digital IDs, which means people can vote without physical Identity documents. They fear the people's wrath in 2026 and 2029, and they are laying the groundwork for election fraud," she said.
