An emotional Tumelo Madlala wept as he got off the witness stand as soon as his testimony was concluded today Madlala spent weeks on the stand giving his version of events as to what transpired on the night his best friend and former Bafana and pirates goalie Senzo Meyiwa lost his life. Meyiwa was shot and killed on the 14th of October 2014 at his girlfriend's home. Meyiwa was in a romantic relationship with singer Kelly Khumalo and had been visiting her home in Vosloorus home when he met his death.
THEY WANTED US TO ADMIT TO THINGS THAT WERE NOT TRUE
Eight years later Meyiwa's killers are still unknown although five men were arrested for his death years later. On his last day on the stand, Madlala continued answering questions from state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi. Madlala told the court that there is a lot that the investigating officer did wrong. "it was her idea that I should be in witness protection not mine. Buthelezi wanted us to admit things that weren't true."
RE-EXAMINATION CONCLUDED
Madlala said after the incident happened, he called Meyiwa's older brother Sifiso and some of his relatives. He said he doesn't remember who lent him the phone when he made those calls. He said he was no expert on firearms but when he was making a statement, he overheard the police saying the firearm used for the murder was a revolver. Baloyi further asked Madlala about the language the intruders used when they demanded money and cellphones, to which Madlala responded, Isizulu and denied having seen accused number two in the media as Advocate Thobane suggested. He said he had never mentioned or described him in his statements but was able to point him out in court. Baloyi concluded his re-examination of Madlala. Before court adjourned judge Maumela warned Madlala that there are more people to testify so he should not interact with them. Court will resume on Monday and a fourth witness will be taking the stand.
