Legendary kwaito producer DJ Cleo might spend the festive season on the streets after failing to pay the bank R1.7 million for his home. A top bank was granted an order to auction the home of the deejay, real name Cleopas Monyepao, in July for any amount not less than R1 million to recover what he owes them. The hitmaker, who also doubles as a part up soccer player and club deejay, has been failing to raise monthly bond payments of R24 400 towards his Weltevredenpark, west of Johannesburg, home.

A HOME LOAN OF ALMOST R2 MILLION
?
The bank, which granted the award winning deejay a R1.9 million home loan in 2008 for the house, approached the High Court in Johannesburg in 2021 to help them recoup the funds by attaching the house after he fell behind with his bond payments. In April 2021 when the bank made the first court application to recover their money, DJ Cleo was in arrears on his home loan repayment amounting to R200 138. The bank told the court that they have written to the deejay numerous times and made attempts to meet with him to settle the arrears to no avail.
"The respondent failed and/or refused and/or neglected to make payment of the required amount in reduction of the aforesaid outstanding balance on the facility, and he has further failed to timeously or at all avail himself of any of the rights available to him," the bank said in the court documents.
AN ATTEMPT TO PAY
?
The top deejay tried to save his home by forking out a R10 000 payment early this year which proved to be a drop in the ocean as the bank continued to apply to auction the home to recover their money. In an application, the bank applied to the court to have the property auctioned so that they could recover amounts owed to them.
"The amount advanced by the applicant to the respondent is substantial and the only security the applicant holds for payment thereof is the immovable property. Should the applicant not be allowed the opportunity to attach and sell the immovable property, the applicant will not only suffer harm, but it will be prevented from exercising its contractual righst against the respondent,"
BANK BANGING ON HIS DOOR
?
The home, which the bank will auction at a price not yet known, is currently valued at R2 million in the market and it is not yet clear if the deejay is the sole occupier of the house. Zimoja called the disc jockey several times for comment but the star could not be reached.
At the height if his career, DJ Cleo was a sought after house deejay and producer, he created club bangers which include Hands Up, Eskhaleni and his latest club jam Gcin' Impilo Yam which was released last year.
