Prince Vanana and Prince Simphiwe Zulu from KwaMinyamanzi Royal Palace had a near death experience when they were involved in the car accident in Springs, in Johannesburg. The half brothers of AmaZulu King, Misuzulu kaZwelithini, were on their way back to KwaMinyamanzi Palace in Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) from Pretoria. The royal brothers were in Gauteng to support the king at the Pretoria High Court, where his kingship is being challenged by his half-brother, Prince Simakade Zulu.

RECOVERING WELL IN HOSPITAL

It's reported that the two,who are the king's close allies, were travelling with other royal family members when their car overturned. KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube confirmed the incident and conveyed her best wishes to the Zulu Royal family following the news. She also said that the two were not critical and were receiving appropriate medical care and attention. "We wish to convey our heartfelt prayers for Prince Simphiwe and Prince Vanana to have a swift and complete recovery after the accident. May they gain back their strength so they can soon be back on their feet, healthy and be with their families. The Zulu Royal Household and the Monarchy are key institutions in the protection of the customary law and traditional leadership," said Dube-Ncube. Vanana was recently appointed as Commander of the King's Regiment or Umkhuzi wamaButho last month while Prince Siphiwe represents the king in the House of Traditional Leaders.

COURT CASE

The Zulu royals were back at the Pretoria High Court this week for three days where Prince Simakade is challenging the legitimacy of his half-brother King Misuzulu kaZwelithini's kingship. Simakade wants the court to set aside the decision to appoint Misuzulu as the heir to the Zulu throne . High Court Judge Norman Davis, who is presiding over the matter, reserved judgment on Wednesday to have enough time to deliberate before passing his judgement. Attempts to get a comment from the Royal Family spokesperson Prince Afrika failed as his phone rang unanswered. ZiMoja's WhatsApp messages were also ignored.
