Nurses abducted and raped while on night duty

Two nurses were abducted and raped whilst on duty in the early hours of Friday morning

Two nurses were abducted and raped while on night duty at Chuene Clinic outside Polokwane in Limpopo last night. Provincial Health spokesperson Neil Shikwambana explained that a heavily armed man entered the clinic shortly after midnight.

BARBARIC

Shikwambana said the suspect then allegedly overpowered security personnel and abducted two nurses. "The nurses returned this morning and recounted their ordeal," he said. MEC Mashego said she was shocked and hurt by the incident. "This is a deplorable incident that happened to our two nurses at the Ga-Chuene clinic. This incident is not only barbaric but is also a setback to the department's efforts to ensure that clinics operate for 24 hours. Police have been called to the scene, and the two nurses are receiving psychological support.'

POLICE INVESTIGATING

Police in Limpopo have confirmed that they are investigating a case of business robbery, two counts of rape, as well as kidnapping. Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said the incident took place in the early hours of this morning. "An armed suspect managed to handcuff two security officers after pointing a gun at them. He then took one female security officer to the clinic, where he took the bags of two female nurses (47) and (28), along with their cellphones. He ordered them to walk with him to the nearby bushes, where he raped them for hours before letting them go. We have been ordered to leave no stone unturned and make sure that the suspect is apprehended,' said Mashaba.
