Like the prodigal son, he fought his father and demanded that he be given his inheritance. When the father told him that will never happen when he was still alive, he allegedly stabbed him to death. The incident that took place last week Sunday, left the community of Bukuzakhe,Volkrust in Mpumalanga in shock.
KILLED FOR HIS ASSETS
Sizwe Nkosi (30) was arrested by the police in Volkrust on Tuesday 12 September and charged with his 50-year-old father’s murder. A neighbour who wished not to be named told ZiMoja that they still can’t believe Nkosi junior killed his father over his assets. "For the longest time, Sizwe demanded that his father give him his house his inheritance. He got angry when his father refused to have his tenants pay rent to him because he is unemployed," the neighbour said. She added that things became worse on Sunday as it was just two weeks after month end and Sizwe wanted the money. "Once again he wanted tenants renting rooms from his father to pay rent to him or move out. This has been going on for sometime and the family reprimanded him over his actions but because he is violent, he ended up killing his father," she said.
STABBING HIS FATHER
The neighbour said that they heard a commotion at the Nkosi’s before it turned into a loud noise of people crying for help. "We knew at that moment that something bad had happened. We heard loud voices of people asking Sizwe why he stabbed his father and people cursing him. That is when we decided to call the cops because we were also scared to go to there as Sizwe is known to be very rude and violent," the neighbour said. Mpumalanga police spokespersons Colonel Donald Mdhluli confirmed the incident." The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage however, police cannot rule out possibilities that the victim could have been killed for his properties," Mdhluli said.
CLAIMING OWNERSHIP OF HIS FATHER’S PROPERTY
According to Mdhluli, the suspect (son) was no longer residing with his father and on the day of the incident. "He allegedly went to the father’s house and tried to evict the tenants, after claiming that he is the lawful heir of his father’s property although he has three other siblings,†said Mdhluli. He added that the father tried to stop him from evicting his tenants and that it was during this period that he allegedly stabbed him. "The police and paramedics were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, the victim was unfortunately certified dead. A murder case was opened with immediate commencement of the investigation," said Mdhluli. The suspect was arrested and charged with murder. He briefly appeared in court and he was remanded in custody. Nkosi will appear again for a bail application on 02 October 2023.
