She had had sleepless nights since January with alleged intruders in her yard, forcing her to move out of her three-bedroom home in the south of Johannesburg. Award-winning actress Gcina Mkhize accused businessman Dzivhu Tevin Mashila of illegally purchasing her home and wanting her evicted. The actress said she was being tormented by the man who came to the property as he pleased and had broken in about three times.
PAPERWORK
Tevin has since come forth with documents, seen by Zimoja, proving he bought the house legally through Nedbank in October 2023. "Gcina's home was up for auction last year after she had defaulted with over R200 000 to Nedbank,' he said. "I bought the house for about R700k, excluding all the other costs and levies,' he said. Tevin told ZiMoja that when all the documentation was done and the house was under his name on the new title deed, he reached out to the actress to let her know that he would like to occupy the house and she would need to move. "She asked to meet up in January but never pitched but she offered to buy the house from me. I was worried because if she couldn't afford to pay, how would she be able to buy the house?' he asked. He added that he agreed and told her that he would draw up a contract. "I told her if she wished to stay, we could have a rent-to-buy agreement where she will pay R12 000 a month on a rent-to-buy contract, but she never signed the agreement," he added.
LEASE
Tevin said the actress is now coming up with delay tactics. "She's changed her number several times. I asked Operation Dudula for assistance and they failed to assist. I was nice to her because I understood that she has children. But I have been paying levies and all sorts of fees for my property and she is refusing to leave or pay rent," he said. Tevin said he understands that Gcina might be attached to the house as it was once her home, but he paid for it. "The house was on auction, and I bought it legally. Yes, it's true; I did break into the house three times. She tried to open a case, but the matter was dropped because she failed to provide evidence and paperwork that she owned the house. The police could not arrest me because I have documents from the bank from when I bought the house on auction in October 2023,' Tevin said.
EVICTION NOTICE
The home is a three-bedroom house with a pool and servants' quarters. "I asked if my brother working nearby could stay in the cottage at the back and she refused,' he said. "I have tried to go about this in the most humane way possible, but she is taking advantage. I even got her served by a lawyer and she does not want to hear anything. She said she would only leave by eviction, even after I told her I did not want to evict her. I even offered her the flatlet, but she is having none of that. So, I have to evict her because I want to use the house and I can't be paying bills for her indefinitely,' said Tevin. Gcina said she continues to live in fear. "The matter is still under investigation, but he wants me to vacate my home as in yesterday. Where will I go with my kids?' she asked.
