Since the passing of adored broadcaster Vuyo Mbuli, his wife Savita Mbuli and their children have tried to keep his legacy alive. Vuyo died on 19 May 2013 after suffering a heart attack at 46 years old. He collapsed while watching a rugby match between the Cheetahs and the Reds at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. His wife recalled some of the generous offerings the Morning Live host made in society.

A GIVER

Calling her late husband a legend, Savita recalled a time he helped to rebuild his community. "You are a Legend! Truly so! Little did you know the difference you would make to the lives of so many people in the beautiful town of Port Alfred. There was an ugly part not shown in pictures. The other side. Where communities lived on the riverbanks in unsafe informal structures that would be swept away if the tide became too high or during the rainy season," she said in a heartfelt note, adding that,"People would come back from work/school homeless. This bothered my husband and gave birth to the first Private Public Partnership. He called local, provincial and national governments and a bank put them on TV. Fast Forward. Today there's a thriving community, in a relatively big township, bigger than Pimville's Zone 4 and 5 combined, living in decent homes. All because my husband was."

MEMORIES

Savita said that she reminds her kids often about their father's great work and charitable spirit. "What moves me even more is the stories people who live there tell. Some are so expressive when they see me in town. I think of the generations that will benefit," she said. "I flex on my kids when we pass there and be on some, 'You know my husband did this.' On days when I'm nice to them, I'll be on, 'You know your dad did this'. It's always a warm conversation starter," she said. "A story they'll share with their children and their children's children. A life lived with a purpose. Continue to rest in peace Myenam (my husband)."
