Durban Music Festival tickets said to be selling at snail pace

Ricky Ross will perform at the Durban Music Festival

Ticket sales for the much-anticipated show featuring US rapper Rick Ross are said to be selling at a snail's pace. ZiMoja has learned organisers are worried that the show might be a big flop due to the rate at which tickets are selling.

RICKY FLOP

Ricky Ross is being brought to SA by Blue Screen Entertainment to perform at Durban Music Fest on May 3 at Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium. He will share the stage with popular artists like DJ Tira, DJ Sox, Mawhoo, Gatsheni, Dlala Thukzin, and Blxckie, amongst others. According to sources, fans are not responding as they had anticipated. "Tickets for the show started selling on February 14, but only a few hundred were sold. I think they chose the wrong date, as the weekend of the show is the same one as the one for the Metro FM awards," added the source.

UNKNOWN TALENT

Despite this, the promoter of the show, Gregory Wings, is confident that the show will be a huge success. He told ZiMoja that he has added unknown talent to be part of the gig in terms of an audition. Wings said: "I am incredibly excited about the opportunity because 50 artists auditioned and the top eight will be part of the show. "This is the first time in the history of South Africa that a promoter has allowed unknown local acts to get on stage and perform internationally. The winner will not only secure a spot in the line-up at the Durban Music Fest but will also receive five free tickets for their families to join in this momentous occasion. "Additionally, they will be featured in Rick Ross's music video that's being filmed in Africa," Wings said.
