She loves to look good on stage and after years of spending thousands of Rands at boutiques, Dr. Rebecca Malope has decided to learn the art of designing clothes. She is not hanging up her microphone and will continue to spread the gospel through music; however, the Isandla singer has ventured into the world of fashion.
FASHION
She told ZiMoja that she has always loved looking good. "People know I love my shiny dresses and suits and as time goes on, maintaining a look becomes expensive even for us artists,' she said. "You always need to look good and not repeat clothes, so I decided to teach myself how to make my clothes.' She said she started learning during the Covid-19. "I am now a pro. I had a lot of time on my hands then and I took my time to learn. I have been wearing my dresses to events,' Malope said.
SHE WANTS TO EXPAND
She has been learning on YouTube and fashion design websites. "I have the vision, make my patterns and sew everything myself.' She has made many garments for her live performances and is even thinking of venturing into the fashion business and selling the clothes. "You know, only time will tell, but I am enjoying it. It's therapeutic and I get to choose how an outfit looks on me. I buy the fabric and everything myself. In the future, I want to expand and maybe start a real design business," she added.
