The police in KwaZulu Natal are tackling crime by the horns. Yesterday, the police shot and killed alleged cop killers who had been on the run for months in Inanda township outside Durban. This morning, an alleged ATM bomber was fatally shot during a shoot-out with the police at a mall in Esikhaleni township outside Empangeni.
FIGHTING CRIME
Another suspect, who was a getaway driver, was arrested, while a third one is still on the run. The incident happened at the Esikhaleni Mall in Esikhaleni shootout in the early hours of Thursday. KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police responded to reports of an ATM bombing at a store in Esikhaleni Mall. "A swift investigation led to the arrest of the driver of the suspects' getaway vehicle. Another vehicle that the suspects were using was spotted in the Madlankala area, and when the police ordered the driver of the vehicle to stop, the suspects failed to obey lawful instructions from the police. "The suspects began shooting at the men of the law; a shootout ensued, which resulted in one suspect sustaining fatal gunshot wounds. A firearm was found in his possession. A search is currently underway at the nearby sugarcane farm where other suspects ran into as they escaped arrest," he said.
