Two more suspects who are related to Sergeant Rachel Shokane-Kutumela have been arrested for their role in the six insurance murders case in Limpopo. The women will join her in the dock today at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court. Kutumela was arrested last week while on duty at the Senwabarwana Police Station in Limpopo and charged with multiple cases of murder which she allegedly committed to claim insurance.

A FAMILY OF CRIMINALS?

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed that one of the suspects is a 47-year-old nurse, who is a sister to the other is a 27-year-old daughter to the sergeant. They were arrested yesterday at Mabokelele village in Moletjie. "The pair is expected to appear together with the Sergeant at the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on various charges including murder, fraud and money laundering," she said.

TARGETING THE HELPLESS

The sergeant allegedly fraudulently benefited from funeral, accidental and life policy covers from various banks and insurance companies. According to investigations, she started her killing spree in 2019. Her victims were known to her and were from destitute and disadvantaged backgrounds and some were disabled or mentally challenged. She would take out life policy and funeral covers on their behalf and she would be the beneficiary. She is currently linked to about six insurance-related murders and evidence shows she has pocketed at least R10 million.
