Police are investigating circumstances around the incident that led to the death of an EFF at FNB Stadium during the EFF 10th birthday celebration on Saturday. The police say the man allegedly fell from the higher floor of the stadium to the second floor and died on the scene.
FALLING WHILE DANCING
Gauteng Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said ,in a statement, that the victim was allegedly dancing when he fell. "Police have opened an inquest docket for investigation after a man allegedly fell from level five to level two and died at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on the evening of Saturday, 29 July 2023. It is alleged that the victim was dancing when he suddenly fell. The police have obtained statements from the witnesses," he said.
EFF TO PAY FUNERAL EXPENSES
EFF National Spokesperson Sinawo Thambo said they will pay for the funeral expenses. "The EFF is aware of the unfortunate passing of an attendee to the 10th Anniversary Rally at FNB Stadium, who according to reports, fell to his death on the day of the event from one of the stands. We send our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased, and pray that his soul rests in eternal peace," he said. "The leadership of the EFF will visit the family of the deceased, and take care of all funeral arrangements in honour of his life, as someone who formed part of the historic celebration of our movement."
