Police in Polokwane have swiftly arrested a 44-year-old Police sergeant for allegedly shooting his wife and domestic worker at their home in Masisi on Tuesday evening. The cop has been on the run since then but was apprehended on Thursday night following a shootout with police.
CAUGHT ON THE RUN
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba explained that information led the police task team to a location in Makuya.
"He was spotted driving at high speed along Tshitavha road next to Sambandou bridge. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect started firing multiple shots at them, prompting the police to respond swiftly. The suspect was wounded in the exchange and one police officer sustained minor injuries." Mashaba said the police recovered the suspect?s service pistol and ammunition. He added,"Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment."
GOOD JOB
Mashaba said the csse has been handed over to the Investigative Police Independent Directorate (IPID) following the shooting ordeal.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said he wished the injured member a speedy recovery and assured the public that the suspect will face the full consequences of his actions, particularly for his refusal to surrender and the violence he displayed towards the officers. "This case will be monitored closely to ensure justice is served," said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Masisi Magistrate?s Court soon, facing two counts of murder and attempted murder.
