A pastor from Khayelitha outside Cape Town will appear in court tomorrow on charges of rape. The 51-year-old pastor who was arrested last week is accused of raping his congregants for over two years.
HE PROMISED THEM HEALING
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the incidents happened at the pastor's church between November 2022 and January 2025. "It is alleged that people would go to the pastor for healing, and he would tell them healing is possible, but then the victims must stay at the church, and that is where he would convince them to have sexual intercourse with him to receive their healing," Twigg said. The police said that the pastor would force congregants to stay after services before raping them.
THE MATTER WAS REPORTED TO THE COMMUNITY
According to Twigg, two victims reported the matter to the community which subsequently informed the police. "The community became aware of his behaviour and had a community meeting, and it was then when victims came forward and made the claims," Twigg said. He added that the victims, aged 15, 22 and 23, were safe and receiving counselling. The suspect appeared at the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Friday and he was remanded in custody until his next appearance tomorrow.
