Musawenkosi 'Musa' Khawula (33), the self-titled "pope of pop culture" appeared briefly at the Randburg Magistrate's Court, after being arrested in January. He is facing charges of criminal injuria and violation of the Cybercrime Act.
REMANDING
He will remain at the Johannesburg Prison, better known as Sun City, until 18 February for his next court appearance. Magistrate Liesel Davis told the court, the matter has been postponed to 18 February for further investigation. A warrant of arrest was issued after the controversial vlogger posted on X (Twitter) remarks about businessman Ze Nxumalo and his wife Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo. In the post, he alleged that Ze had cheated on his wife with reality TV star and divorcee Lebo Mokoena while his wife was heavily pregnant. He was asked to apologised, which he did in what seemed like a cryptic post. A warrant of arrest was issued for failing to do so. He was nabbed at a tavern in Dundee, in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
OTHER CASES
In a separate incident, Musa also posted on his social media platforms that the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, had used his powers to demand sexual favours from junior staff members. He also faces a charge of murder and another of attempted murder after running over an alleged victim with a car in a drunk driving incident. He will appear for the case of attempted murder, that took place on 20 February 2021. on 5 February.
