Police Minister of Senzo Mchunu has welcomed the arrests of four suspects involved in the R2bn drug laboratory at a farm in Groblersdal, Limpopo. The arrested was made on Friday during the intelligent driven operation by Limpopo SAPS and the Hawks.
MAJOR DRUG BUST
According to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, the Hawks in Limpopo received information about suspicious activities taking place at the farm, which was then operationalised and the multi-disciplinary team pounced. "Four structures on the property were searched and large quantities of chemicals used in the manufacturing of illicit drugs including acetone as well as crystal meth with an estimated street value of R2 billion were recovered," Mogale said.
SUSPECTS TO APPEAR IN COURT
Mogale said they arrested four suspects, includes two Mexicans and the farm owner. The four will appear before the Groblersdal Magistrates Court tomorrow on charges of manufacturing, dealing and possession of illicit drugs. Mogale said they are not ruling out the possibility of more suspects being arrested. In a statement this morning, Mchunu said that since the beginning of the year, the police have uncovered ten clandestine drug laboratories and made 34 arrests.
