Actress thanks fans for donations

Gcina Mkhize thanked her fans for donations

Former Isibaya actress Gcina Mkhize has won the hearts of South Africans who assisted her financially to try and keep her home. Mkhize and her two daughters are sharing their contested Johannesburg home with two male strangers who claim to be the new owners of the house.

GIVING THANKS TO GOOD SAMARITANS

Mkhize went on social media yesterday to thank people who supported her financially through a Back a Buddy initiative and those who deposited money into her personal bank account. Mkhize was assisted by Operation Dudula in remaining in the house she bought with her former husband in 2015. She had refused to vacate the house when a new owner tried to evict her. A more relaxed and smiling Mkhize said: "I would like to thank each and every person that made a donation into our Back a Buddy campaign. I would also like those who made a deposit into my personal bank account. All the monies that are coming in, are making a huge difference into our lives. My kids and I are eternally grateful. We are deeply humbled by your kindness" she said adding that the people who wished to donate, can still continue to do so.

MARITAL PROBLEMS

Her woes started when she got divorced in 2018. According to their divorce decree, the estranged couple were supposed to contribute equally towards the bond repayment of the house since it catered for their children. Mkhize, who played the role of Jola on Isibaya, lost her source of income after the TV drama was cancelled on Mzansi Magic. Mkhize believes that the new owner of her house bought it illegally since he cannot apply for an eviction order. Businessman Dzivhu Tevin Mashila alleges that he bought her home on auction after the actress defaulted on bond repayments. Last week, she posted several videos on social media asking for help after Mashila started to strip the pad to renovate it. He told ZiMoja that he has been struggling to get Gcina out of the home he bought. "I offered that she rents the house for R12k and she said yes but then changed her mind. I am basically paying for her to live in my house. I took the windows out because I want to renovate the house," Mashila said. He added: "She's looking for public sympathy at my expense when she refused to be evicted.
