Janet Jackson drops Delicious after brother's death

Janet Jackson will not be performing at DSTV Delicious

Fans of US singer Janet Jackson are disappointed that they won't watch their favourite musician perform this weekend. The younger sister of the late music icon Michael Jackson will not be coming to South Africa anymore, owing to the passing of her other brother, Tito Jackson.

SHE LOST HER BROTHER

The Let's Wait a While hitmaker was set to perform at the highly anticipated music and food festival this coming Saturday. Jackson, who had kept her fans updated by posting several videos on her social pages, telling them how excited she was about coming to the motherland, will remain behind in the US for the burial of her musician brother. The DStv Delicious team confirmed the non attendance of Janet last night. "It is with heartfelt understanding that we announce Janet Jackson will no longer be able to headline the DStv Delicious Festival…due to pressing family commitment following the recent passing of her brother, Tito Jackson." The festival organisers also added, "We send our deepest condolences and support to Janet and her family during this time of mourning." Janet Jackson's management team also kept the organisers abreast of the bereavement in the Jackson family. In a statement, they said: "Janet's brother Tito passed away this past Sunday. For obvious reasons, Janet has to cancel her performance at the DStv Delicious Festival to be with her family.

SHE IS MAKING PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR

According to the statement, Janet's management team is making plans for her to come and perform in SA next year. "Jackson also wishes to thank her South African fans for the warm and heartfelt support she's receiving at this difficult time," the statement said. The festival organisers said they are working tirelessly to replace Jackson, as they understand that many fans were excited to see her perform. "The festival's management team is actively working on securing a suitable international replacement headliner to ensure an unforgettable experience," said the statement. Another American singer performing at the gig is R&B singer Jill Scott. Other local performers billed to perform include Thandiswa Mazwai, Maxwell and Zakes Bantwini.
