The case against Longwe Twala has been postponed to next week Wednesday for his legal aid representative to familiarise himself with the case before applying for bail. Longwe, the son of veteran musician and producer Sello "Chicco' Twala, was back at the Randburg Magistrates Court today after his arrest two weeks ago. His father opened a theft case against him.
ARRESTED
Chicco opened a case of theft to teach his drug addict son a lesson after he stole music studio equipment worth over R200k from his home while he was overseas. "He had been clean and I let him come back home. I bought studio equipment because both my sons are sound engineers. But he stole equipment worth over R200k.' Longwe and his brother Sello (34) were arrested for theft last week at the Douglasdale police station. His brother was released due to a lack of evidence that he could have been an accomplice.
DRUGS
Chicco admitted that his son has a drug problem and he would rather see him behind bars than have him roaming the streets. "My son is a drug addict. He has been an addict since the age of 17. I have taken him to over 30 rehab centers and we have tried to help him as a family, but we failed.
PREPARATION FOR BAIL APPLICATION
Magistrate Magistrate Abdul Khan postponed the case to Wednesday, 25 September, for Longwe's lawyer to familiarise himself with the case before applying for bail. "Mr Twala, the matter is going to be postponed to the 25th of September for the bail application your lawyer says he needs to prepare for. You will remain in custody until the 25th, when we will hear your matter," Khan said. Chicco told ZiMoja that: "Maybe jail will help clean him up from drugs. He is safer behind bars than roaming the streets. Maybe all the delays are helping him; I don't know.'
