Controversial social media commentator, Musawenkosi "Musa' Khawula recently appeared at the Randburg Magistrate's Court for charges of criminal injuria and violation of the Cybercrime Act. He spent six nights behind bars and will remain at the Johannesburg Prison, better known as Sun City, while police officers verify his address for bail application.

THE ARREST

SAPS spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed Musa's arrest and stated he is scheduled to appear in court again on 21 January. His Legal Aid lawyer Ofentse Nkgwang advised that Musa will not be commenting on the matter. Musa was arrested at a drinking spot in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal last week and made his first appearance at the local magistrates court before being moved to Johannesburg Prison where he is currently held.

A VIOLATION

On his X (Twitter) account, Musa posted remarks about businessman Ze Nxumalo and his wife Tamaryn Green-Nxumalo. He alleged that Ze had been having extramarital affairs with reality TV star and divorcee Lebo Mokoena while his wife was pregnant. The Nxumalo legal team, through their lawyers, demanded a retraction and apology. Musa gave a seemingly sarcastic apology. The Johannesburg High Court ordered Musa to delete the remarks, and after failing to do so, a warrant of arrest was issued for non-compliance. Musa also recently wrote on his social media platforms claiming the Deputy Minister of Transport, Mkhuleko Hlengwa had used his powers to demand sexual favours from junior staff members. He will be returning to Randburg Magistrate Court for a bail application on 21 January 2025.
