Matter against former Sizokthola presenter postponed due to his lawyer being unavailable

Former Sizokthola presenter court case postponed due to defence's family commitments

Former Sizokthola presenter Xolani Khumalo appeared briefly at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court today, where the matter was postponed. The case was moved to October 22 due to the absence of his defence lawyer, Prince Mafu, who had family commitments.

CHARGES

Khumalo faces charges of murder, robbery and damage to property following a July 2023 incident in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, where Sizokthola was being filmed. Robert "Ricks" Varrie (49), a suspected drug dealer who was interrogated was allegedly assaulted and later died.

LEFT TO DIE

The court previously heard that after Varie was allegedly assaulted, he was left at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, where he succumbed to his injuries. Khumalo handed himself to the cops at the Katlehong North Police Station and was released on R20 000 bail. State prosecutor Pheello Vilakazi has told the court that the investigation into Xolani has been completed and the matter is ready to go to trial.
