Keletso Lula Modiba, the daughter of the late legendary radio legend Eddie Zondi, revealed that she was fired from her TV job by SMS. The 26-year-old Modiba, better known as Lula Odiba, was one of three presenters on Channel O's Groove, where she, Hope Ramafalo, and Gontse King Culture gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look into the vibrant world of SA's music scene.

SMS IS THE NEW EMAIL

Lula Odiba, who hosts the midday show on 5 FM, told her listeners recently that she was fired via SMS from her other gig by TV bosses at Channel O. Lula Odiba, who was the main presenter, also added that she was told that there is not enough budget to pay her salary any longer at the channel. The former Wits University's VOW FM DJ asked her listeners their worst news received via text messages. She also expressed on the show that she was disappointed by the fact that her TV bosses did not have the decency to call her or send her an email to give her the bad news. "A call would have been much better," she said.

SHE CONFIRMED THE SMS WAS SENT

Lula Odiba confirmed to ZiMoja that the SMS incident happened when she was fired from her job, but did not want to dwell on the matter. "I have been advised by my manager not to talk further about this issue," she added. Lula Odiba, who took the broadcasting genes from her late icon father Eddie Zondi, took her career seriously while she was still in Grade 11 in 2014. It was the same month her father passed away. She had an assignment for Life Orientation when she went to shadow another legendary icon, DJ Fresh, at 5FM for two days. When she started her professional radio, Lula Odiba joined YFM. She left the station in June. Her star is shining at 5 FM, where she is becoming a household name. Called for comment, Channel O publicist Portia Hlongwane did not confirm or deny that Lula Odiba was fired through SMS. Hlongwane said the show is currently on a break. "Should there be any news, Channel O will keep fans updated," she said.
