Two police officers from KwaZulu-Natal were shot and killed on Saturday night whilst responding to a shooting incident in Clifdale, west of Durban. The murder of the two officers brings the total number of police officers killed in the line of duty to 11 in KwaZulu-Natal in 2024 alone.
KILLED ON DUTY
SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker explained that the unfortunate incident happened on Saturday night when police officers were responding to a scene where a woman had been shot. Naicker said the suspect, who allegedly killed the woman was the same person who shot at the two police officers.
"Last night at 19:30, three police officers responded to a murder of a woman at Cliffdale area in Hammarsdale," explained Naicker.
He added, whilst they were attending to the crime scene, it is alleged that the perpetrator returned and opened fire on the police officers, fatally wounding two of them.
SWIFTLY ARRESTED
Naicker said the suspect is alleged to have killed a fourth person while fleeing the scene.
"However, members managed to arrest a 38-year-old suspect in connection to the multiple killings,"he said.
