Former IDOLS SA contestant Tebogo Louw at the height of his fame packed his bags and moved back home to the Western Cape to recoup and regroup. He now returns after seven years refreshed and ready to take up space in the music industry again with the song Ang'kholwa.

STEPPING BACK

The last project he released was an album titled Ageless in 2017, following a very public journey with the music industry with IDOLS SA. The aftermath of Covid-19 played a significant role in his decision to leave Johannesburg. "After two challenging years, I found it increasingly difficult to afford rent due to a lack of work in the luxury space, which pushed me to start anew,' Tebogo told ZiMoja. "My life in Johannesburg before leaving was challenging, especially in the two years. The lack of opportunities for artists made it unsustainable for me and ultimately, I had to make the tough decision to relocate.' He received a warm welcome back home in Stellenbosch, just like the begotten son. "I was received well and never judged for making the decision to go back home," he said. "Whilst home,I've been engaging in work that I truly enjoy; including art curation and mentoring young aspiring performing artists.' He also worked on cruise ships to make ends meet. "I focused on improving my craft while performing on cruise ships internationally honing my music skills.'

WELCOME BACK

His return single Ang'kholwa is released under his company, SoLouw. "I would characterise my new song as, New Age Afropop. While I remain authentic to my musical roots, I'm incorporating elements like piano and lock drum to create a fresh sound that resonates with today's audience,' he said. "The song was inspired by a deeply painful breakup with the music industry, a situation that still leaves me in disbelief,' Tebogo shared. "It serves as a heartfelt plea to my audience, asking them to remain by my side and give me their "love back." Additionally, it reflects the emotions we all experience during a breakup, recounting the feeling of being left behind.'

CLARITY

Time out gave him clarity and he learned that success in the music industry is incredibly challenging without a reliable team. "It's difficult to find individuals who genuinely care about helping artists fulfil their calling through music,' he said. "This can lead to feelings of self-doubt and destruction when you struggle to make ends meet. I've also had to establish boundaries and distance myself from those who are only interested in the fame. But I have big plans for my comeback...just wait and watch."
