Mboro and bodyguards arrested

Pastor Mboro has been arrested

Prophet Mboro and his three bodyguards have been arrested following the incident where he was wielding a panga while in the company of men holding AK47s at a school in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni. It's alleged that Mboro, real name Paseka Motsoeneng, was at the school to abduct his two grandchildren, whose mother passed away.

VIRAL VIDEOS

Videos of the controversial self-proclaimed prophet went viral yesterday where he was seen wielding two pangas at female teachers at the Matshidiso Primary School. In a series of videos that were posted on social media, Mboro could be heard telling the teachers that he had come to get his grandkids, who were staying with him prior to their mother's passing in April. Mboro claimed that the kids maternal grandmother was using the children to get money from him and his son, who is the father. The incident angered some community members who threatened to attack Mboro.

ARRESTED AND CHARGED

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed that the police have arrested four people following acts of intimidation and violence at the school. "The four were arrested last night and will appear in the Palm Ridge Court in due course. They are facing a variety of charges, including assault, handling a firearm recklessly that could endanger lives and property, rendering security services while not registered, malicious damage to property, and intimidation," Kweza said. She added that the replica firearm and the pangas have since been confiscated. "One of the suspects was arrested for assaulting the station commander at Katlehong North police station when a group of people were demanding to deal with the local pastor outside the police station," she said.

URGENT INVESTIGATION

Minister of Basic Education Siviwe Gwarube said she has engaged with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu this morning for an urgent investigation into the matter. "I have spoken to the MEC in the province to ensure that the learners, educators and staff at the school are provided with the requisite support. I am absolutely incensed by this attack on our schools, staff and learners. No one, absolutely no one, should break into schools with weapons interrupting teaching and learning time and terrorising children," Gwarube said. "MEC for Education in Gauteng, Matome Chiloane, said yesterday that that psycho-social support will be deployed for the affected teachers and learners to help them cope with the trauma resulting from this incident.
