Former Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa will be part of a coaching team at Cape Town City FC, the club announced last night. This comes after the dismissal of their head coach, Mushin Ertugral, yesterday. Etugral only joined the club in January, and he left after a mutual agreement.
FIRED
The club announced the dismissal of Ertugral yesterday, only three months after he started his duties. Ertugral was appointed as technical director and interim head coach after City fired Eric Tinkler on December 31 last year. The reason for Tinkler being fired was because of poor results. Tinkler, who had coached top teams like Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, joined Sekhukhune United last week, with former City defender Marc van Heerden as his assistant coach. Tinkler, who has previously managed teams such as Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, joined Sekhukhune United last week, with former City defender Marc van Heerden serving as his assistant. Initially viewed as a potential saviour for City, Ertugral led the team to victories over his former clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. During his tenure, the 65-year-old coach took City to position 8 in the log, but the team is now 13th on the Betway Premiership table. The Turkish-born coach was recognised as the PSL Coach of the Month in January after City secured a third win later that month. Under his leadership, the 65-year-old coach guided City to an 8th place standing in the league, although the team has since dropped to 13th in the Betway Premiership table. The team said in a statement: "After technical discussions, the club and Muhsin Ertugral have agreed mutually to part ways. The decision comes as a collective in the best interest of the club, as we look to end the 24/25 season as strong as possible. We thank Muhsin for his professional and earnest contribution."
VETERAN COACH TO JOIN THE TEAM
Cape Town City announced that Ertugral will be temporarily succeeded by first-team coach Diogo Peral, who will be supported by veteran coach De Sa and retired Chiefs player Lebogang Manyama. De Sa has been without a team since his last role with the Qatar national team in 2023. The team statement read: "First team coach Diogo Peral will lead the team until the end of the season, assisted by Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa."
