Five suspected robbers have died in a shootout with police in Lindela, Ntuzuma, north of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal last night. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the police received information about an unconfirmed number of suspects who were travelling in two vehicles planning to commit a business robbery in KwaMashu.
ALLEGED THUGS TURNED AGAINST EACH OTHER
Netshiunda said when the police arrived, they found the suspects arguing with each other, which led to gunfire among themselves. "Police stumbled upon that altercation, and the suspects then turned their guns to the police, and police retaliated. During the shoot-out, four suspects were shot and fatally wounded," Netshiunda said.
SHOOTOUT WITH THE POLICE
Netshiunda added that a search in the vicinity of the crime scene led to the discovery of the body of a fifth suspect who attempted to flee. "The fifth suspect had sustained gunshot wounds. Two more suspects, who were injured when they shot each other, were located at a nearby hospital," he said, adding that a search is underway for the suspects who evaded arrest.
