Cop caught on camera slapping a man to face the music

A police sergeant is facing disciplinary action after striking a member of the public at the police station

A female police officer who was caught on camera slapping a man at a police station will face disciplinary action. The video surfaced over the weekend and was taken at the Tsakane police station in Ekurhuleni. The man has since opened an assault case against the cop.

A HEATED EXCHANGE

The cop and the man at the station started exchanging words when the complainant asked why they were not helping a lady sleeping on the bench at the police station's customer service centre. The cop asked the man if he was shooting a video and when he said yes, the cop and her colleague are heard in the background saying he needs to be beaten. "Hit who, me, hit me," the man said in Zulu before the cop approached him and slapped him.

COP TO FACE DISCIPLINARY ACTION

In a statement this morning, the SAPS management in Gauteng said they have noted with disappointment the video circulating on social media. "This behaviour is uncalled for, and the SAPS Code of Conduct advocates for clients to be treated with respect and integrity at all times. Both the sergeant and the member of the public have opened cases of assault and crimen injuria against each other," SAPS said in a statement. The management also said that an internal disciplinary case would also be opened against the police sergeant.
