Chidimma Adetshina's mother granted R10 000 bail

Chidimma?s mother has been granted bail

Despite the state opposing bail for the mother of former Miss SA finalist Chidimma Adetshina, she has been granted R10 000 bail.

The Mozambican national who made headlines after the identity of her daughter was questioned appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on yesteday afternoon.

BAIL

Anabela Rungo was arrested eleven days ago on charges of identity fraud. The court heard that Rungo broke several immigration laws including staying in South Africa illegally, leading to the State's decision to oppose bail citing that she is a flight risk. The magistrate presiding over the matter ruled that Rungo be granted bail but be under house arrest as one of her bail conditions.

Home Affairs officials, together with the South African Police Service arrested Rungo at a property in Cape Town almost two weeks ago.

The arrest follows the withdrawal of Rungo's South African documentation last September after it was discovered that it had been fraudulently obtained.

FOUND WITH CHIDIMMA'S CHILD

During her arrest she was found guarding Chidimma's daughter. Home Affairs spokesperson Siya Qoza expressed concern over the underage child's safety.

"Home Affairs is further liaising with the Department of Social Development and SAPS Child Protection Unit as it relates to protecting the interests of the underage child. The department will provide further updates at opportune moments," he said.

The case has been postponed to the 8 May for further investigation.
