Case against soccer star Shaun Mogaila postponed for further investigations

Shaun Mogaila's case has been postponed

The culpable homicide case involving Sekhukhune United player Mokete Shaun Mogaila (29), has been postponed for further investigations. Mogaila was back at the Thembisa Magistrate's Court yesterday facing charges of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene of a crime in October last year.

FLEEING THE SCENE AFTER THE FATAL ACCIDENT

The footballer later surrendered himself to the police and was arrested. The crash occurred on Andrew Mapheto Road, in Thembisa, during the early hours of October 30. According to NPA Gauteng spokesperson Phindile Mjonondwane, the state alleges that on the date, Mogaila's vehicle veered into the opposite lane and collided with another car carrying a woman and two minor children. "Tragically, the nine-year-old Gomolemo Mavimbela lost her life, while her mother and a 13-year-old boy were severely injured in the accident. The police found what is alleged to be alcohol bottles and drugs in Mogaila's vehicle after the accident. Initially, Mogaila fled the scene but later on, that day handed himself to the authorities, where he was charged with reckless driving, fleeing the scene of the accident and culpable homicide," Mjonondwane said.

CASE POSTPONED FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATIONS

The case was postponed for further investigations and the outcome of the post-mortem examination and J88 medical evidence. Mogaila's R20,000 bail was extended until his next court appearance. He will be back in court on May 19.
