KWAZULU NATAL: The police in KwaZulu-Natal recovered cocaine worth over R86 million concealed inside a container at the Durban Harbour yesterday. According to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the police received information about a vessel that left Brazil at the beginning of November carrying pure cocaine disguised as kidney beans. The vessel, which came to South Africa via another country, was monitored until Saturday, 30 November 2024, when it arrived at the Durban Harbour. The container was taken to a warehouse on South Coast Road for a proper search. During the search, eight bags of crushed pure cocaine were found and according to the documentation, the shipment was destined for Johannesburg. The police have launched an investigation to uncover the people behind the drugs.

EASTERN CAPE: A mother, Shayieda Dollie (51), was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of her 20-year-old son, Moegamat Thaafir Dollie, for an R2 million insurance policy claim. Moegamat was murdered on October 28, 2024, by hitmen who were promised R380,000 for the hit. NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said the crime was allegedly motivated by Dollie's frustration with her son's ongoing struggles with drug addiction and disruptive behaviour. She consulted various people seeking advice on how to deal with her troublesome son, and one of the individuals suggested she find a "permanent solution" to her problems. Dollie then conspired with two men known as Shaun and Oompie and hired hitmen from Johannesburg to carry out the murder. Dollie lured her son under the pretence of a job interview, where the perpetrators picked him up, only to murder him later. Shaun and Oompie are still at large.

WESTERN CAPE: Five men were shot dead on Sunday afternoon in Madikizela informal settlement in Mfuleni. The police were called to the crime scene and upon arrival just after 1 pm, they found the bodies of five men aged between the ages of 19 and 30 with gunshot wounds in a shack. Brigadier Novela Potelwa said the motive for the shooting is being investigated by the provincial serious violent crimes investigators. No arrests have been made yet. Mfuleni police have opened a murder docket for investigation.
