Queen of Gqom, Babes Wodumo, did not win any awards at the SAMAs last night but she surely won the hearts of the thousands of people who were watching the awards last night.
EVERY GIRL'S DREAM TO WEAR WHITE WEDDING DRESS
Babes walked the red carpet in a dramatic wedding dress finished with a white veil, instead of wearing a traditional red carpet dress. She chose the white gown because she was paying homage to her late husband, Mampintsha, who died before they could have a white wedding.
The celebrity couple tied the knot in April 2021 in a joyous traditional wedding in KwaZulu-Natal but never had a chance to have a white wedding.
The pair also pulled all the stops in 2020 during their engagement when Mampintsha proposed in a video getting down on one knee. Sadly his life was cut short when he died in December 2022. Babes Wodumo was only 28 when she lost her husband. The pair had been together for more than 10 years and have a son together.
WISHING MAMPINTSHA WAS ALIVE
Speaking to Zimoja the hitmaker says she wished her late husband was alive so that they could have walked together on the red together. She also said that she wished they had had their white wedding but death cut that dream short. "I know most people are wondering why a wedding gown is on the red carpet. Yazi namhlanje (Today) I wish uMampintsha was here so he could walk the red carpet with me," she said. She also added that last night felt like it was her white wedding. "You know what, yesterday felt like our white wedding," she enthused. After she walked the red carpet Babes became on top of the trending list. Her sister and manager, Nondumiso Simelane, said she is proud of her sister's killer performance and also said it made her happy to give her sister a white wedding she never had. "We were trending because of her performance and the wedding gown but it feels good to know we gave her the wedding moment she always wanted," she concluded.
