ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa launched a mandatory political education course for all party members during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg today. ANC members have until December 2026 to complete the internal course which Ramaphosa said will help equip them with the necessary skills to run the organisation and government.

THE COURSE TO FOCUS ON THE PARTY HISTORY

Ramaphosa said the party intends to implement its political education course in all its structures by January 2025. He said the programme has five modules with some focusing on the history of the ANC, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the functions of an ANC branch. "The foundation course can be completed in any official South African language. Education has some benefits. It deepens our understanding of the country we live in, its history and it gives us the tools of analysts," he added.

REBUILDING THE ORGANISATION

He said that the compulsory political course for all ANC members is an attempt by the party to rebuild political education within the organisation. "Political education is going to help in many ways. It's going to enable our members to be confident in doing their work. It's going to broaden their understanding and give them tools of understanding. This is a great moment. We have resolved at our conferences that the training and political education of our members should be paramount," Ramaphosa added.
