The family of a woman who was killed on Monday when thugs demanded stokvel money want justice. Maria Gwala from Embo in Umbumbulu, in the north of Durban in KwaZulu Natal, was brutally killed and the family wants the cops to investigate the members of the stokvel group to establish who may have a hand in her murder.Speaking to Zimoja,Maria's brother Nhlanhla said that there was no way that stokvel members could have not known that Maria had withdrawn their stokvel money since she was their treasurer. "I don't want to point fingers very far. My sister was the member of a stokvel group and we as afamily we did not know that there was some money lying around at home. The people who were sent to demand that stokvel money, knew that the money was with her.' he said.
FACE THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW
Nhlanhla said he wants those involved in her murder to face the long arm of the law. "I don't want to avenge her death. All I want is for the culprits to go to jail for a long time. I want the community of Mbumbulu to know them. People here rely on stokvel since there is scarcity of jobs and the greedy ones don't like that. They want all the money to themselves. My sister died for this community as she had been trusted with the moneyl,' said Nhlanhla.
HOW MUCH MONEY WAS TAKEN
KZN SAPSSpokesperson Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that the incident took place. "Umbumbulu SAPS is investigating the murder of a 62-year-old female who was shot and killed. It is alleged that the victim was at her home when someone knocked at the door. When she opened the door two suspects with balaclavas entered and demanded cash,' said Ngcobo. It is still unknown how much money the criminals took before they shot and killed Maria.
