Ntokozo Xaba's alleged killer abandons bail

Ntokozo Xaba was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend Ngcebo Thusi

Ngcebo Thusi (23) who is accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death after she refused to take him back, abandoned bail when he appeared  at the Pretoria Magistrates' Court on Monday. He allegedly killed his ex-girlfriends Ntokozo Xaba (20) two weeks ago.

 NO BAIL

During court proceedings, state prosecutor Advocate Mashudu Nembulunge emphasised that the state intended to oppose bail in the matter. "The accused's address is positive. His brother gave us a statement. All relevant bail information for the accused has been collected," Nembulunge said. However Thusi's defence lawyer DS Bopape said his client had not intended to apply for bail at this stage.

PUBLIC INTEREST

Bopape asked the court for permission to stop the media from filming or photographing him and his client but the magistrate presiding over the matter made it clear that the accused will continue to be published. Magistrate Marco Richard said:"This case is in the public interest. It involves femicide. The media has been ordered not to take images of the magistrate and the State. They mustn't take your pictures too. They can photograph the accused."

TAKING THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS

The Student Representative Council President Sizwe Nyambi has threatened to take the law into their own hands should Ngcebo gets bail. Nyambi said it was frustrating that the government has no plan to stop femicide. He said the government needed help from other leaders and activists to stop these horrific attacks on helpless women and children. "I'm openly coming out and saying if you're going to give him bail, we will kill him. We are tired of the killings of our sisters, mothers and children. He knows that we are waiting for him hence his decision. Nyambi said off campus  student residencies should not save money at the expense of people's safety. He said They don't want to pay more money to beef up their  security and as the SRC they will no longer tolerate that.  "If there was enough security or just one guy guarding Ntokozo Xaba's block she would still be alive,"said Nyambi.

BITTER EX

It is alleged that the once high school sweethearts from the same hometown of Osizweni in Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal broke up last year August but when their institution re-opened,  the accused tried to fix things with Xaba. When she refused, Thusi did not take it well. It is alleged that the accused was the last person to leave   Xaba's place  at midnight , after she and her other friends had a social gathering at her place in Pretoria Gardens on 01 February 2023.
