“Money is not the same, but I'm not broke” - Zodwa Wabantu rubbishes claims of being down and out

Zodwa Wabantu says she is still booked and busy

She was introduced to the mainstream media as an exotic dancer. Promoters and event organisers booked her to dance on countertops half-naked. Recent reports have stated that the controversial and outspoken Zodwa Wabantu Libram was going through financial challenges and is down and out.

NOT BROKE

Speaking to ZiMoja, Zodwa says that could not be far from the truth. She might be getting fewer bookings, but she is still able to afford her lifestyle. Zodwa says that she has never lived an extravagant lifestyle, she has always been a simple girl and that will never. "I'm not a flashy person. I have always lived a simple life. I don't wear make-up or put on weaves and I focus on investing my money in things that matter,' she says. "Yes, I will admit that the bookings are not the same. But this is because of the economic climate. Everyone is struggling, and the cost of living has gone up. But for me, it is because I have chosen to invest my money and more of my time edlozini. Everything I do these days is to appease idlozi.' Zodwa says she was recently invited to attend the Amapinao nominations party but had to turn them down. "I know when I got there, I have to buy something sexy to wear, get my make-up, and fix my hair. I had to choose between saving that money for idlozi because it will benefit me in the end.'

SPENDING MORE TIME ON SPIRITUALITY

Zodwa says she has cut down on spending on expensive champagne as she used to in the past. "I had to put my spirituality first because I know whatever scarifies I make will reward me in the future.' Zodwa is still gyrating half-naked on bar counters and taking off her clothes in front of an audience. "If I was broke, I would talk about it, I am an open book. Nothing of mine is a secret. Dancing naked pays my bills. It's who I am and that is what people love about me. I am free, I don't fake it and I will never stop until the time is right.' Zodwa says she wants to remove the perception people have of being broke. "Let's not put fear on brokenness as black people and society. There's nothing wrong with being broke at times or going through financial strains, as long as you work on fixing things. Mina, I have never cried to anyone for money for groceries.'

PICTURES DON'T LIE

In a recent picture making rounds on social media, the mom of one is seen on the floor of a dingy drinking hole in Nelspruit and she is criticized by social media followers "Hay, that's nothing skhokho, I've danced at dodgier places before. Those are my real fans. That is where I make my money. These people understand and support me,' she says. "I have been dunusing for a long time. I was in Nelspruit, emagashagasheni It's a good picture, it makes me trend. It's who I am. My pu%&y makes me trend.' Zodwasays she loves those who criticize her because it makes her topical. "I don't live for approval from social media and anyone. I report to myself, God ne dlozi.'

BEING A HEALER

Zodwa says her journey as a traditional healer has not been easy. "Kunzima. It's emotional. It's difficult. I didn't choose it. It's showing me that it's time for me to slow down on the parties. But all things happen in their own time,' she says."I am getting stronger spiritually. I have Amagedla,Abaalozi, Izithunywa Zamanzi, and Ngiyabona. I have dreams, I see things, I have visions, and angihambingedwa. It's a tough gift to have, but I never forget that it is a gift for the chosen few.' She recently posted some wild animals which some people labelled her a witch and uthwele. "I bumped into the animals. I don't go out of my way to kill them. They are gifts from amadlozi. I'm a hunter. It's deep and not something that can be explained in one sentence. People said ngithwele. I can't keep explaining myself to people. They will always judge me.'
