Judgment reserved in Ramaphosa vs Zuma court case

The gloves are off as former president Jacob Zuma is gunning for the current president Cyril Ramaphosa

The legal showdown between former president Jacob Zuma and current South African president Cyril Ramaphosa will continue on Monday, 16 January. This is after the judgment was reserved in the urgent interdict application by  Ramaphosa regarding his private prosecution by Zuma.

ZUMA AGAINST RAMAPHOSA

Legal teams representing both Zuma and Ramaphosa appeared before the full bench of the Johannesburg High Court yesterday. Zuma is accusing Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan of leaking confidential medical records in the arms deal case, named Ramaphosa as 'accessory after the fact' and wants the president to "physically' appear in court on 19 January for private prosecution in the criminal case.

INTERDICT AGAINST ZUMA

Ramaphosa's legal team argued that the matter must be set aside as it is unconstitutional and unlawful. The president asked for an interdict to prevent any further steps in pursuing the private prosecution and to excuse his appearance in the criminal court as demanded in Zuma's summons.Zuma accused Ramaphosa seeking special treatment from the courts because he is the president while Ramaphosa accused Zuma of having an ulterior motive saying the former president wanted to scupper his re-election as president of the ANC.
