KwaMashu Hostel was a battlefield this week as 20 armed men entered and started shooting and killing people

There are still no arrests in connection with the mass shooting that claimed the lives of four people at the notorious men's hostel in KwaMashu in KwaZulu Natal on Wednesday. Police say they cannot rule out the possibility of rivalry between hitmen. Twenty people stormed the building where nine friends were enjoying drinks, and opened fire on them.

Yesterday KZN cops announced that they were on the manhunt of 20 heavily armed men and that they cannot rule out a possibility of inkabi rivalry at the hostel.
ZiMoja learnt that on Thursday the residents of KwaMashu Hostel held a community meeting to discuss ways to assist the cops catch the 20 wanted men.Two residents who wished to speak to ZiMoja on condition of anonymity said they cannot rule out the possibility of hitmen as there many types of hitmen in the hostel."Everyone knows these people were shot because of their victimisation of the hostel dwellers. We can't sleep as we fear for our lives. You may never know whether you are next," the source said.

HIDING PLACE

Another source said: "There are hitmen who are perceived to belong in the IFP, there are others who are also known as being from the NFP and others from the ANC. Then there are those who are involved in taxi business which makes it really difficult to know exactly who did this. All of them want to own this hiding place because it is not easy to catch a hitmen when he is hiding here in a hostel." KZN Police Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "Three people allegedly shot and killed at KwaMashu Men's Hostel on Wednesday afternoon. The fourth victim succumbed to gunshot injuries at a local clinic. Five more people were rushed to a clinic with gunshot wounds. It is reported that at least 20 armed suspects stormed into the hostel and opened fire on the victims. The Provincial Organised Crime have already started with the investigation," he said.
