Zulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini has fired his prime minister, less than a year after appointing him to the position. This was confirmed in a statement signed by the king and addressed to the Zulu nation.
AXED WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT
In the statement, Misuzulu said, "Today, I address you with a heavy heart as I announce my withdrawal with immediate effect of the name of Rev. Thulasizwe Dominic Buthelezi from this esteemed position. Reasons for the withdrawal are to be shared with traditional leaders and the nation in due course as we are still observing uMkhosi until the end of January 2025." He urged the Zulu nation to unite in support of the process to appoint a successor who will carry forward the torch of leadership. "The throne remains committed to upholding the sacred values and traditions that bind us together as a people, ensuring that this esteemed position continues to serve its vital role in our nation's journey," he added in the statement.
HE HELD THE POSITION FOR ALMOST A YEAR
Buthelezi, who is also KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, was appointed to the position in January this year, replacing the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who held the position for 70 years. At the time, Misuzulu said Buthelezi worked well and very closely with his late father and had proven to be honest and loyal. "People of my ancestors, here's the opportunity you have been waiting for. You may recall that I fasted and prayed about this, and God gave me clarity on this. Because I am a believer, I cannot rule such a big nation and ignore the existence of God. I've appointed Thulasizwe Buthelezi as the traditional prime minister. The chief worked very closely with the late King Zwelithini. He worked very hard and is trustworthy," the king said at the time.
