A 34-year-old woman was remanded in custody after briefly appearing in the KwaMhlanga Magistrates Court on Thursday for allegedly killing her boyfriend. Thandi Mohloadiba is accused of stabbing her 31-year-old boyfriend, Dan Mtsweni, on Monday and dumping his body in a grazing field in Tweefontein in Mpumalanga.
MURDERED AND BODY DUMPED
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, Mtsweni disappeared, and his mother reported him missing at the Tweefontein police station on 27 November 2024. "On Monday, a passer-by came across a semi-decomposed body of a male person, wrapped with a blanket and a carpet. This gruesome discovery was then reported to the police, and upon arrival, members observed that the body had visible stab wounds. A rope was also noticed around his neck," Mdhlui said. He said Mtsweni was later identified by his mother.
FACING MURDER CHARGES
Mdhluli said Mahloadiba was arrested on Wednesday after an investigation and charged with murder. She appeared in court on Thursday, where the case was postponed to 18 December 2024 for a formal bail application. The suspect was remanded in custody. "More charges could be added against the suspect as the investigation continues," Mdhluli added. Acting Provincial Police Commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi has condemned the gruesome murder. "We are concerned about these kinds of murder incidents alleged to have been perpetrated by either those that are having some kind of relationship with victims or allegedly committed by their family members. There seems to be a moral decay in the society, and we call on faith-based organisations and traditional leaders, as well as civil society, to continue to work together with us to prevent this challenge," said General Mkhwanazi.
