Eskom has confirmed the suspension of loadshedding from 5am this morning. Frustrations flared over the weekend when the power utility announced bringing back power cuts.
BACK ON TRACK
Eskom says this is due to the successful recovery of generation capacity and good progress in replenishing emergency reserves. Eskom said some replenishment is still needed and these developments will result in a stable power system.
"Our focus remains on eliminating load shedding as a structural constraint on the economy. There will be valuable lessons to be learned from the set of multiple unit trips that were unconnected and purely technical in nature related to electrical and control system issues within auxiliary parts of our power stations," Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane,
STRATEGIES LINED UP
Marokane explained that ongoing planned maintenance stands at 6660MW in alignment with their summer period maintenance strategy.
"The maintenance strategy is at increased levels in order to prepare for winter and meet license and regulatory requirements. We reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that South Africa will not return to the severe levels of load shedding experienced in 2023," he said.
