Kelly Smith's brother pleaded with people not to judge his family on his sister's actions. The brother, who identified himself only as Meneer Daniels, was addressing the reactions of social media users concerning the differences in looks between Kelly and her sister, Constable Mickeyla Daniels. Mickeyla was on the stand on Monday testifying against her sister in the Joshlin's kidnapping and human trafficking trial at the Western Cape High Court sitting in the Saldanha Bay multi-purpose centre.
SHE DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE CALLED A MOTHER.
In the now-deleted social media posts, Daniels said the attention on his sister's looks is unwarranted. He wrote: "I see my sister is trending, but please don't ask me about it. I want no part in it because the focus should be on the important matters at hand, specifically the circumstances surrounding Joshlin's disappearance.' He added that what Kelly did to Joshlin was horrific. "She does not deserve to be called a mother. However, I ask you not to judge me or my family for Kelly's actions.' He said, that Kelly, the eldest of the siblings, was not raised by their parents, as they were not financially stable at the time. She had the potential to pursue higher education or secure a good job, but she chose a path involving drugs," he said, adding that they are aware of the potential judgement they might face as a family. "I understand that some people are genuinely trying to understand what is going on, but others seem intent on creating negative stories about us. I am genuinely saddened by what happened to Joshlin. It still hurts me to this day."
JOSHLIN WAS IN THE SQUATTER CAMP DAYS AFTER SHE WENT MISSING
Mickeyla, who is based at the Upington SAPS, told the court on Monday that Kelly told her that Joshlin was still in the squatter camp seven days after she went missing. She said Kelly, who was emotional at the time, said: "Sister, my child is here in the informal settlement. Somebody wants to sell my child, but Saldanha is currently a hot spot.' She said things were different the next day when she spoke to her sister on the phone. She said she sounded happy and told her how the Minister of Sports, Gayton McKenzie, bought clothes for her other two children. Smith, her boyfriend Jacquen Appollis, and his Steveno Van Rhyn are standing trial on charges of kidnapping and human trafficking. They have all pleaded not guilty. The trial was postponed until tomorrow.
