"We apologise to those whose rights were violated."

The co-owner of the club condemned the incident

The co-owner of Zanzou nightclub has apologised to victims who were allegedly sexually assaulted and tortured at the club by bouncers. Neo Moela, through prominent lawyer Zola Majavu, condemned the incident and said he was not aware of it until the videos depicting the incidents began to circulate online two weeks ago.

APOLOGISING TO TORTURED PATRONS

During a press conference held in Johannesburg earlier today, Moela, through Majavu, addressed the disturbing videos that have gone viral, showing patrons being physically and sexually assaulted by bouncers. "I apologise to those whose rights have been violated. As a young South African entrepreneur and as a human being with family ethos, I do not condone those acts. There can never be justification for those despicable acts. I condemn them in the strongest of terms,' Moela said through Majavu.

CO-OPERATING WITH AUTHORITIES

Majavu further clarified that Moela is not evading law enforcement and is not considered a suspect. "He does not locate himself above the law. He is available if he has to account from the criminal or civil perspective,' Majavu said. He added that they understand what the law says on both criminal and civil liability of directors. ""If anything, the police are engaging with him as a person from whom they can source some information to enable them to decide whatever they want to do. It has been reported in the media that other people are being sought; those people who are being sought and pursued by the police are none other than him. Because he is here, the police know how to get hold of him. They have engaged with him.' Majavu also justified Moela addressing the media: "My client felt that it was important as a South African to come out in the open and say I am the director of this entity. And I'm prepared to be held accountable. He's not about to leave the country. He's not going anywhere.' A Congolese man who was arrested in connection with the incident was remanded in custody yesterday after the case was postponed for an identity parade.
