Victory for South Africa!

She crossed the finish line at exactly 1:58:40 to win the first gold medal ever for South Africa at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Nanjing, China. Athlete Prudence Sekgodiso (23) made a world-leading time.


LEADING


She started in third place, then dashed her way through to first in no time. Followed by Nigist Getachew from Ethiopia finished second in 1:59:63, and Patricia Silva from Portugal, who took third place in 1:59:80.



IN PARIS


In Paris last year, at the Olympic Games, Prudence finished eighth in the 80m women's final. Akani Simbine won his first global individual medal after a series of fourth and fifth place finishes on Friday.
