Two more suspects arrested in Lusikisiki mass shooting

The rifles which are believed to have been used to kill 18 Lusikisiki famyly members

Two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the mass shooting of 18 family members in Ngobozana Village in Lusikisiki last month. Last night, authorities arrested the pair in Flagstaff, Eastern Cape.

HIGH CALIBRE RIFLES RECOVERED

National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, said the SAPS have recovered high-calibre rifles they believe were used in the killings. The firearms are three AK47 automatic rifles and a Steyr Mannlicher rifle. Mathe said through intelligence and meticulous detective work, the high-calibre firearms were recovered last night. "Preliminary investigations indicate that the firearms were moved to another location after the killing of the Lusikisiki eighteen. The high-caliber firearms have been taken in for ballistics testing to determine and confirm that they were indeed used in the commission of the crime and to also determine which other crime scenes can be linked to them," Mathe said.

MORE SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Mathe said the two suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of the rifles. " Minister Senzo Mchunu, the deputy ministers of police, Polly Boshielo, Cassel Mathale, and the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Fannie Masemola, have commended the investigating team for this breakthrough," Mathe added. On Wednesday, four suspects were arrested for the murders at their hiding place in Port Shepstone in KwaZulu Natal after a tip-off from community members. The two suspects arrested last night bring the number of alleged killers nabbed to seven. Parolee Siphosoxolo Myekethe was the first suspect to have been arrested in connection with the murders. He appeared in the Lusikisiki Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, where he abandoned his bail application and his matter will be back in court on 26 November. The four suspects who were arrested on Wednesday will make their first court appearance today.
