'Their sacrifice will never be forgotten'

Fallen traffic cops remembered

Families of 69 traffic officers who lost their lives in the line of duty gathered at Boekenhoutkloof Traffic College in Tshwane to honour and remember them for sacrificing their lives.

The families were joined by Deputy Minister of Transport Mkhuleko Hlengwa and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi who gave comforting words to the grief stricken families.

IT WAS NOT IN VAIN

Speaking to the families during the ceremony, Hlengwa acknowledged their grief whilst comforting them.

"Please know that their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Your strength and resilience in the face of this unimaginable loss are a testament to the love and honour you have for your fallen officer. To the colleagues and fellow officers here today, we want to thank you for your continued service."

He added:"As we honour these fallen heroes, we also extend our deepest gratitude to their families and loved ones, who continue to carry their memory with strength and pride. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten."

FESTIVE SAFETY CAMPAIGN

Of these brave men and women, 28 were from Gauteng, 13 from KwaZulu-Natal, nine from Mpumalanga, seven each from the Eastern Cape and Limpopo, two from the National Traffic Police, and one each from the Free State, Northern Cape, and Western Cape.

Later on Sunday, Hlengwa and Lesufi will be joined by Minister of Transport Barbara Creecy for the launch of the 2024/25 festive season road safety campaign, also taking place in Tshwane.
